Does a blog have to have a theme? I mean, seriously, is it in the rules or something? Can't I just be narcissistic and write about myself? More of a journal than a blog. That's why my LJ was for.
However, saying that, the blog is probably going to contain more social commentary than anything.
For example, http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,587980,00.html. This article is all about an extra-small condom that is being made for 12-year olds. Does it not strike anyone as socially irresponsible to give a 12-year old blanket permission to hump anything in site? Yes, yes, I know all of the arguments about abstinence and teen pregnancy, but still, 12-year olds should be more concered with holding hands and getting their first kiss, not losing their virginity. I'm not stupid, I know that kids are having sex younger and younger these days. I understand that. However, I feel that by giving them the means to do so, we are, in effect, giving them the permission as well. More should be done on prevention of this type of behaviour. It goes back to what I said on Facebook the other day...society would be a much better place if parents beat their children.
Complainin' and Complainin'

So, by that same logic, there should be no fire extinguishers in dorm rooms where you aren't allowed to cook or burn candles...oh, wait. FSU had them in every room, as you and I both know. I never needed them because I knew FSU Housing had a zero-tolerance for violating that particular rule, and I wasn't itching to be homeless.
ReplyDeleteFACT - 12 year olds are having sex, whether they are mature enough or not.
FACT - there are 12 year olds mature and responsible enough to be sexually active, just as there are 24 year olds who are NOT.
I daresay those mature 12 year olds are the ones not currently having sex, but that's only bald opinion on my part.
So...we should deliberately endanger some because immature others would take it as a license to dither as they please, when the immature already -by definition- do what they please with total disregard for personal and societal safety or consequence?
::blink, blink::
Or are you saying we should not make adequately sized condoms because 12 year olds mature enough to be sexually active are not currently active ONLY BECAUSE of the dangers?
::blink, blink::
Or are you saying that 24 year olds hung like 12 year olds are physically too immature to participate safely?
I always heard it wasn't the size of the boat but the motion of the ocean... =)
And for the record, I think they should make the condoms, my husband should make those condoms available to our children, and I should threaten each child individually with a long handled wooden spoon =D
